THE COLEMAN THEATER BEAUTIFUL
MIAMI, OKLAHOMA
This was one of our most interesting projects ever. This classic silent movie theater was opened in 1929 (the same year talkies came around.) The city of Miami now owns the theater and is restoring the facility to its original splendor. We are quite proud to have a small part of the project.

This is the stage set from the musical "The King and I".
Our part of the project was to work with Ron Stowell and prepare an evaluation for the Friends of the Coleman Committee regarding the sound for movies and live events. These are two separate systems, both of great age and extensively used. The former Altec speakers were in poor shape and woefully underpowered. The public address equipment used for drama and musical presentations was a mismatched group of equipment sold by a variety of music stores.

Our recommendations included a two phase plan. Phase one included: updating the movie reinforcement speakers and amplification and building a portable sound reinforcement system that could use the movie speakers on the front lip of the platform. Phase two includes: a permanent sound reinforcement system hidden within the room for the majority of stage presentations with integral house wiring and intercom facilities.

Phase one is completed. The picture above is the custom built speakers which reused the six JBL PRO 2225H 15" woofers which had been placed into the retired Altec speakers about 1986. New horns and drivers, crossovers and cabinets joined with the existing woofers to create some very effective speaker systems. Concerts Systems LLC of Southbend, Indiana worked diligently to provide an exceptional design now designated 1O3 after the Coleman's address 103 Main Street. Soon the speakers will be finished and grills added to dress the speakers for use on the front of the stage. (For movies the boxes are rolled behind the perforated screen.)
