THEATER ORGANS

Whether it is a  Mighty Wurlitzer,   a Wonder Morton, or a Golden Voiced Barton, I have a passion for the American Theater Organ.   Of course real pipes are best,  but until someone comes to my front door with sweepstakes check,  it will have to be digitally sampled sounds.

Check out these examples,  some of these I have gotten to play.

My current project involves a 30 year old three manual theater console.   This console was full of older Artisan analog circuitry which was removed prior to my purchase.   I have added new Artisan digital circuitry to make it a 3 manual, 32 pedal  MIDI controller with dual expression pedals.   Currently I am using it to play the Miditzer 216 sampled organ system.  It works great,  sounds great and is a real joy to play.   The Artisan micro-relay circuitry functions as a programmable MIDI relay.  Soon I hope to add combination pistons to all three manuals to active preset combinations.

If you don't know about the Miditzer software, check it out.  The team at VirtualOrgan.com has done a fantastic job in creating a virtual theater pipe organs.

I am a member of the American Theater Organ Society (ATOS).  This is a group of enthusiasts who promote the knowledge and restoration of these uniquely American instruments.  They were built to accompany silent movies in the grand theaters of the teens and twenties of the last century. I love to talk about organs - the music,  the organs,  the science and technology.  If you are interested or curious please write  gary@jordanaudio.com.

In July I bought a Rodgers 32B  analogue three manual church organ.  Everything works on the instrument, even though it is almost 40 years old.   It has some noise in the circuits especially in the signal from the swell division.   I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with this piece, keep it as is or gut it and add MIDI control to play other organs.  Any ideas.

I have "tweaked" the set up in my workshop.  I've added a pair of single speed Leslie speakers controlled by a Radio Shack Plug N Power remote relay system.  I've also added a digital reverb unit that feeds to a pair of separate speakers for "ambiance."   It's a lot of fun, especially showing off my home made zimblestern.   It is made from an old 33 rpm turntable and 8 hobby shop bells.
