"Time To Sing"

The Q is a quintet that features three generations of the Hollis family (and Tom.) Murray Hollis (of the Vintage Gospel Lads) founded the group with his daughter Tammy Cady.  Her two daughters Sara Polly and Hannah Cady create a beautiful family harmony.  To fill out the sound the group features Tom Souder singing bass.

The album includes some new, some old, some sweet and some fun songs.

"Ascent"

This is a unique project. We started it in the fall of 1997 by recording the basic tracks. In the spring of 1998 we recorded the lead vocals. Phil was in the middle of a 40 day fast while we recorded the lead vocals. His voice has never sounded better. We visited a couple of songs once, but it sat unfinished until 2008. 

Gary Jordan and Gary Ohmart discussed the project at length and decided to finish it without Phil's knowledge. 

Some of the drum tracks recorded with Rich Henry were lost or damaged and unusable.  Since we lost Rich to a heart attack in 2004, a new drummer was needed.  Jim Moss, a long time friend of Phil, came to the rescue.  He tracked new drums for five cuts (without a click track.) 

We did have extensive notes about all that Phil had planned to do. As much as possible, we followed these ideas. 

First we loaded all the multitrack recordings into the computer.  We replaced a few tracks of base guitar, added a few tracks of electric guitar, recorded background vocals with "RiverVoice" and them set out to create sonically interesting mixes.

Normally a 12 song album would receive 30-36 hours of mixing.  This album recieved about 60 hours of mixing time. We wanted it to be a good as it possibly could be.

We surprised Phil with the master disc in front of the entire worship ministry team at our annual picnic.  He was in tears and delighted at the same time.
