COMMONS AREA
Family Activities Center
This expansive family activity center is a
special place for parents and kids. The huge indoor playground provides a
safe, clean, and climent controlled place for kits to play and parents to
fellowship. A fully stocked snack bar,
provides treats for kits and coffee for parents.
The sound system is in stereo. The
arrangement was chosen for use with a 12' by 16' projection screen. The
video system was put in a few months after the room was completed. The speakers are very wide
coverage line arrays with top mounted custom sub woofers.
A rack mounted mixer provides for day in day
out operations and music playback. The rack is wall mounted in the storage
room to the right of the snack bar. A paging microphone allows the snake
bar workers to announce when your full flavored coffee drink is ready. The
video support equipment is also located in the amplifier rack.
A small mobile mixing cart can be
brought out of storage and connected for use with special presentations. A
multipin connection recessed in the floor at the rear of the seating area allows
for eight microphone inputs, the stereo main outputs and a line level
monitor output to feed to a powered floor monitor. This allows for
simple coffee house types of music presentations and classroom applications.
The matched sub woofers are custom built to
fit the rigging from the line array manufacturer. Normally we would not
choose to fly sub woofers, but there was not usable place on the floor, so in
the air they go.
Most parts of the system have similarities to
the gym-a-torium, Oasis and Kids Theater systems. This is to maximize servicing, learning, and operation
of both systems. Different amplifiers were required due to the previous models
being discontinued.
The video projector is a 5000 lumen DLP unit
suspended above the snake bar seating area. It is from the same series of
projectors used in the Oasis and Kids theater, all of which are accessible
through the building LAN. Any computer (and password) on the network can
control the projector and keep track of how many hours the lamp has been
on, temperature, etc...
PLAYGROUND
A special vocal projecting system is installed
at each end of the playground for paging and announcements. A push to talk
microphone is the only input. The speakers are mounted 10' off the
floor. At one end the speaker is placed on a pipe on the roof of the
"toll booth." At the other end the speaker is mounted on a large
flag pole.
Everything in this auxiliary system comes from
TOA Electronics.
