Youth Ministry Center
This 200 seat youth center is difficult to
explain due to the unique nature of the space. Todd Weger of Weger +
Associates Architects worked with the youth minister to develop a space for
worship, learning, community and caring that is very much teen oriented.
The globe in the middle of the floor is where
seating will be placed for staged events. The platform is modular and can
be configured for many different variations. The dual input/output panels
on the rear wall allow for any type of musical programming.
The amplifier rack mounted below the east
stair to the mezzanine level complements the industrial appearance of the space.
The matched sub woofers are mobile and
designed to remain out in the open. They do require two people to move them, but
that won't happen too often.
The overhead speaker, which are not visible
due to the negative space ceiling system are Concert Systems LLC model 102-63
boxes with LDAC venting. Each box contains two-12" woofers and a
2" throat compression driver on a 90 x 40 degree bi-radial horn.
Some new and some existing floor monitors are
available for the musicians on the platform. The model matches as closely
as possible the floor monitors used in the gym-a-torium.
Most parts of the system have similarities to
the gym-a-torium system. This is to maximize servicing, learning, and operation
of both systems. The system processing and amplifier are identical. The
console is similar (Soundcraft LX7-24ii) but with fewer inputs, auxilliary
mixes, sub groups and eq features.
The pictures were taken on the day that the
system was commissioned. A lot of dust was still in the air and the
building had not yet been turned over to the church for occupancy. Better
shots will be made available after all the dust settles.
